Reading Revelation

Writer's picture: Grace WickGrace Wick

We are reading the book of Revelation right now. Some say Revelation is too difficult to understand. Some find the book controversial and other would prefer to ignore the book. I don't want to argue theology so I have asked my students to read Revelation and together we will learn what we can.

There is some mystery to Revelation. I can only imagine the challenges that the Apostle John had in writing Revelation. How do you describe something which you are seeing for the first time to someone who has not and can not see it for themselves. This is both the challenge and the mystery for John and for us. Rather than be scared of the events described lets learn together what we can. There is no greater description of heaven and eternity than what we find in Revelation. Read carefully but don't try to figure out what every symbol means get an overall sense of what God is saying in Revelation.Listen as you read for the spirit of God is your teacher and he will help you understand what you need to know today.

I will continue to write and answer questions concerning Revelation if you have them. For today due to the power outage I will keep my writing short. Our current reading is:

September 1 Revelation 7

Sept 2 Revelation 8 (difficult reading)

Sept 3 Revelation 9

Sept 4 Revelation 10

Sept 5 Revelation 11

Sept 6 Revelation 12

Sept 7 Revelation 13
