Reading John finding Love

As we quickly approach August, I am posting the reading plan if you are ready to journey with me and begin to journal through scripture. This reading plan has taken me many years to develop. Once upon a time I didn’t really think it mattered where you started reading in your Bible as long as you were reading somewhere. I no longer hold this view. Every time I thought I had the reading plan down I learned something new that changed it. I hold a stronger conviction that this is the order to approach scripture that works better especially for those with limited knowledge of scripture or cultural background that bends our understanding of God’s Word.

There are a myriad of reasons for where and why we start in John, and why this is a month by month reading plan and not something else. I could give you any number of reasons for this. Here are a few: First, we start with John. John is a unique gospel not like the other synoptic gospels. It was my doctor in the Philippines that caused me to realize just how vital it is to start with John. She shared with me that she wanted to join Bible studies but just didn’t seem to understand them; therefore, she dropped out discouraged that she was not understanding what the Bible was saying.

John holds a set of insights that no other Gospel does. John was not just Jesus’ beloved; John was sharing the great love Jesus and the Father have for us. He shares the keys to being born again of the Spirit of God. I have written more concerning this vital teaching in my post titled Really Reading the Bible With Children so please read it. If you want to understand scripture you must be born again of the Spirit of God. John gives us both practical insights into being born again, but also stories to help us understand this essential truth. So we start with John as we journey through Scripture.

I have designed the reading plan to be month by month not dated. Some of the reasons for this include that I do not want a person to wait for a new calendar year to start reading the Bible. It is important that one start at the beginning of a month so as to successively read through assigned reading. Because it is essential that you start with John not some other book of the Bible, so a month-by-month non-dated plan allows you to start and grow in essential Biblical truths. I have left these as though they were all thirty-day months. If the month has 31 days, take a day off or catch up if you missed something.

I would love to know that you are sharing this journey through scripture with me, so let me know. I will share some of my insights as I go through and would love to hear what you are hearing from the Lord. I never share my prayer and generally do not share all four steps of the journaling.

The reading plan:
